Another GPS program that works on Boost iDEN phones but not the CDMA models.

Features

Touch screen and keyboard support

Always use up-to-date maps by using Google Maps, Earth, Terrain (requires internet)

Or download maps to a flash card and use NavFunPro without needing internet, details see www.funrungames.com/NavFunProMan.php#mapsfromflash

Find addresses, businesses, weather conditions, city-info, other buddies

Define waypoints, and projection of waypoints

Dashboard with compass, speed, altitude, coordinates, and distance to target

Altitude graph

Online tracking (requires internet)

Review/export your tracks at www.trackthisout.com/tm.html. This part is password protected. Your current location is pincode protected. In this way friends can track you if you give them your pincode.

Export your location to your own private server (requires internet)

Load GPX track-files from your mobile's file-system (for example flash card), show the track on your mobile's map, and let your mobile guide you through the track

Store your track as GPX file to your mobile's file-system. After that you can review your track on your PC (using for example Google Earth)

See and chat with your buddies that use NavFun Pro or http://www.trackthisout.com/index.html

Speed camera detection for whole Europe, USA, Canada, Taiwan and Brazil (powered by www.foxytag.com)

Supports bluetooth GPS and built in GPS (JSR 179)

Also works without GPS. In that case you can browse maps and use the find-feature.

This is an unlimited demo version. However without license key, each 90 minutes you have to restart the application and you have an extra popup at startup.

You can buy a license key (full version) for € 4.99 (about $7) at www.funrungames.com/getnavfunpro

On my i776 NavFunPro installed OK and gets a fix quickly but after a couple of minutes it complains "location signal lost" and locks up tight. arnold040 says it works pretty well on his i580 although he gets the "location signal lost" message occasionally.

LocateA, a free mobile Java GPS tracker with messaging and Geo-fencing. Works on Boost iDEN phones.

Another GPS tracking app that works with the iDEN Boost phones. Designed primarily for business who want to track their vehicles or employees, it can also be used for tracking friends and family members. It runs in the background on the phone transmitting its location every60 seconds. LocateA's PC website shows all your users on a Bing map. There is no map on the phone

PC and phone users can send messages to each other. The app supports geo-fencing meaning you can define an area on the map and get an email alert or LocateA message when a phone enters or leaves the area.

Setting up LocateA for the first time is a bit confusing. The process is:

Register an account at LocateA.net, wait for the email (it takes about a half hour). Click the activation link in the email.

Log in to LocateA.net on the PC

You you will se a screen asking you to add your first user, namely you. Fill in all the required fields and press 'submit'.

You will see a page called My Users, with a a map and one user listed (you) with a red X in the Live column.

Start LocateA on the phone.

Press the menu key and choose 'settings'.

Enter the ID number from the My Users page in the Username field

Enter the PIN number from the My Users page Password field.

Be sure to use the ID and PIN, NOT use the username & password you registered for LocateA with.

Select Location API (JSR179)

Select 'OK', then Press the left softkey "Log in/out".

After you are logged in press the right softkey labeled "Start/Stop"

Once the screen shows "GPS fix OK", go back to the My Users page and choose "Show my users" and your location will appear on the map.

Some users have reported stability issues with the current 3.0 version of HoneyLocation. I haven't experienced any crashes myself but BoostApps reader Clark had it crash several times with an Unhandled Exception error on his i580. He found this older 2.1 version 2.1. So if you're having trouble with 3.0 try this one. Features seem identical.

Honey Location uses the phone's GPS or nearest cell tower location if GPS is unavailable. It lets you track your phone and your friend's phones on a PC or view your location on a map on the phone. Before you can use it you have to register at honeylocation.com. Registration is free.

This is a GPS tracking app that lets you view your location on a map on bliin's desktop or mobile web sites and share it with friends who are bliin members.

There is no map on the phone and no other features like messaging in the app. It's a lightweight GPS beacon app that sends you location to the web every 3 seconds by default although you can change the interval to 15 seconds, 15 minutes or manually.

I haven't tested this extensively but it looks like it stays running in the background and updating your location when you suspend it by pressing the red hangup key twice or closing the flip on the flip phones. You do need to register on the bliin site to use the tracker but only an email address is required

Here's another free GPS app that works with Motorola iDEN. Honey Location lets you track your phone and your friend's phones on a PC or view your location on a map on the phone. It seems to get a fix quite quickly using cell tower location to show your approximate location if GPS isn't available like indoors. Free registration required at honeylocation.com

Publisher's description: "Honey Location is a FREE mobile application for tracking locations. Works on all cell phones. Want to spy? Want to see the length of a journey or max speed? Not a problem anymore. Log in and watch honey’s locations on Google maps. Export your routes to Google Earth (KML file). Take picture using cell phone and show it immediately your friends. Share your locations, be visible, follow your friends."

If this version crashes on your phone, try version 2.1.

Several people have requested an app that can track your phone on a map. Boostapps reader Clark recommended Instamapper which works perfectly. It runs in the background on the phone and you can view where the phone is and where it's been on a Google Map by visiting instamapper.com (free registration required) with a PC browser, Bolt or Opera Mini. (Bolt seems to do a better job with the Instamapper site than Opera.)

The version posted here was designed specifically for iDEN phones and gets a GPS fix very quickly (under 30 seconds outdoors) on my i776.

LifeInPocket, free turn by turn navigation with voice guidance for Boost Mobile and Nextel phones.

Updated 22-Apr-2010: Until recently, the only way to get Life in Pocket was to visit the LifeInPocket.com PC site and to register and then push the app to your Boost or Nextel phone. The PC site is Flash based and doesn't work with mobile browsers, so users without a PC were out of luck. Now Life in Pocket has made their LIPsignup app available for direct download from a mobile friendly page at lifeinpocket.com/s.html.

The direct download doesn't work with iDEN phones but it did make it possible for me to add to to BoostApps where Boost iDEN and Nextel USA users can send it to their phones using the Send to Phone button below.

Note that the LIPsignup app is just a small 33KB loader that lets you register for the service. When you register be sure to choose the right carrier (Boost or Nextel) and enter your mobile number correctly as 10 digits with no leading "1". When you finish registering, exit the signup app and go to Download Apps again and you will see a new "LIP_056" download - which is the actual 736 KB Life In Pocket App.

LifeInPocket is the only free GPS aware turn by turn navigation app with voice guidance I've found that runs on the Motorola iDEN phones. It actually does a lot more than just navigation including free messaging with other LifeInPocket users, a friend and family locator, address book and text note synchronization, calendar, task manager, weather forecasts and a news reader.

LifeInPocket tries to do too much, in my opinion. It's a huge app, consuming over a megabyte of precious space on the handset. Navigating the menus is confusing and the LifeInPocket website is worse. Fortunately the core navigation feature works really well, with loud, clear and timely voice prompts.
Several of you requested star map apps and "piggy" found MicroSky for you. It's a planetarium in your pocket which can display the night sky for your location or anywhere in the world. The star maps are stored on the MicroSky server but download quickly, much faster than Google Map, for example. Before you can use MicroSky you do need to register for an account at www.upto.org/skyserver/editRegistration.do?action=Create&callfr om=microsky but registration free and instant.
