Opera released the "final" (not Beta) version of Opera Mini 5 today. The Opera Mini 5 changelog claims that this version has "Improved performance on low memory devices" so I had high hopes that it would work on my i776 where previous releases had not. Unfortuanately it still doesn't work on my i776. Just like the Betas, it downloads and installs but when I try to run it it hangs when the "loading..." progress bar is at 100%. So close, yet so far.
The last Beta reportedly worked reasonably well on the i9 and i856 so I'm posting the final version for users of those two iDEN phones. It may work on other models but I doubt it.
Normally installing this release of Opera Mini 5 would replace Opera Mini 4.2, if it's installed. Seeing as 5 doesn't work at all on iDEN phones and prior versions had some issues even on the i9 and i856, I've renamed this copy from "Opera Mini" to "Opera Mini 5" (following this "Renaming Java Applications" tutorial) so that it can coexist with 4.2 rather than replacing it. You can safely download and install this version of Opera Mini 5 without affecting your Opera Mini 4.2 installation.
If you download this please leave a comment as to whether it works or not and what phone you are using. And if it fails to install or you encounter bugs please also file a bug report at mini.bugs.opera.com. When filing a report it will ask you for the build number and version. The values you should enter are 18635 and "5.0". Filing bug reports is the best way of getting problems with software fixed. You can also report issues on the Opera Mini User Forum, but bug reports are supposed to be more effective.

Hello. My op mini 5 freezes at openin screen about 85 percent thru. And the last time i surfed net...auto or fast scrollin didnt work...third time this has happened.. Always reinstall but i have many bookmarks and dont want to again any help?
Always quit Opera Mini using the exit option in the Opera Mini menu. Quitting Opera Mini by pressing the red key or closing the flip can corrupt the app causing the symptoms you describe.
i downloaded the opera mini 5 beta when i download an app or anything i can not find the files when i go to down loads on the phone they are all there but i cant pull them up on my sanyo incognito scp 6760....
I don't have an Incognito so I'm guessing here, but:
When you start a download you should get a pop up that shows where the file will be saved and has a dropdown that lets you change the location.
If you scroll to the bottom of the dropdown and click on "Other" it should show you "Phone Memory" and "Memory Card".
Tap Memory card and you can drill down into the folders on the memory card and find a location to save.
You will need to experiment to find which folders the phone's Gallery and Media Player use.
Install a file manager like Ultimate File Explorer and you should be able to move and copy files between folders on the memory card.

I have been using Opera Mini on my Sayno Juno for almost a week now. So far, the only problems I have encountered are saving pages and I can't use predictive texts, but I am still new to it, so I'm sure I will figure it out, or If someone knows how to use more of the features would be great!! I also now find some of my buttons will stick occasionally.
You can't save pages with Opera on any of the Boost phones that don't have memory cards, it's a limitation of the phone.
It works GREAT on my i856; I love it!! Thanks, Dennis for this site; it has brought more advanced &mainstream apps to iDEN users. I've turned on some friends who use other iDEN phones to this site & we all greatly appreciate it!
ok i have opera mini 5 downloaded on my samsung rant onli problem im having is it wont let mi downlaod any thing from the internet to my phone like it does with the incognito is any one else having this problem?

i465 downloaded 5.0 was painfully slow, got it to work didnt like interface and didnt like the slow pace. Back a few for me.
I have a Boost - Motorola i855 and I installed this App.
No problems during the Install.
When I go to run the App, I'm to the place where it's starting and the red line is going across the screen horizontally. When it gets to the end...my phone reboots every time. =(
Opera Mini 5 only works on the i9 and i856, on an i855 you need to use Opera Mini 4.2.
i have the i290 it downloaded and installed but got hung up half way thro loading it. i think im goin 2 stick with the 4.2 for now.
Correction. I found out on sanyo incognito phones, I can smooth scroll by pressing the yellow keypad Fn+2 to scroll up and Fn+8 to scroll down. Nice smooth scrolling.
Thanks for renaming Opera 5. It gives me a chance to test-drive and see if i like it, without getting my Opera 4 overwritten. Nice interface, but it doesn't have smooth scrolling or skin option on my sanyo incognito. So I'm staying with my Opera4.2 for now.
opera mini 5.1 came out today and says it works on over 3000 phones including low memory phones. anyone with an iden phone try it yet?
i have the samsung rant and i just installed the opra on it today. i freakin love it! i can watch the videos on youtube which i cant on the bolt. it is so awesome!
by the way the scrolling feature is realy nice and i like how it shows the letters and symbols when u type
works great on my i856 way better than the default browser the mouse pointer is dope and there is tabs!!! Not sure if older versions have that this is my first time using it(on it now) the controls are difrent than the default browsers which can result in some wtf just happened moments but that was my bad for not reading what that button did like the right option key changes for difrent pages ect... Highly recamend or however u spell it lol just get it!

It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes at most. If the download seems stuck, cancel it and try again. It should still be in Download Apps.

Works awesomely on i856w. Its super fast and easier to use than what was offered on this phone. Recommended!
I downloaded it to my i465 and it installed but it takes too long to do anything with it. 4 to 5 minutes to load the app and that long to do anything else with it. I have uninstalled other apps to see if freeing up more memory would help it move faster but it didn't. I wonder if it is in conflict with the other Opera version I have installed.
One last item, they're asking us iDEN users to use our native 300baud speed browsers to D/L from them. I said just FIX IT and my friend will have it for us to D/L! God Bless Dennis and his devotion to our phones. I admire him deeply!!! Smile
I'll say this till I die. 25yrs ago I ran a TriState group and out of all of them, my group had finished programs that worked on every COMMODORE computer! We even sent them overseas. All shareware and by fantastic teenagers. Opera get it together! Enuf...
I went directly to the Opera's site and spoke my mind. You don't release a product if it doesn't work! Never mind the fact they announced it as FINAL! They're so glad I'm not their CEO! I would've continued the BETA testing before announcing FINAL! Sheesh

I put opera mini on my i9 and its awesome so far!
I put the opera mini 5 on my sanyo incognito. The font is way small. It only goes up to large, and the large looks like a small. Back to mini 4 until they update the fonts.

Doesn't seem to work with my i465. I'm going to uninstall and stick with an older version for now
